FAQ
I’ve never taken any dance lesson… is it okay?
Sure, no problem!
Most new students don’t have any experience in American style social dance. Many other Japanese dance schools that focus on very formal and competitive dance skills – we believe in teaching fun and relaxed social dance that many people in the world enjoy every day.
Who are taking classes at JSDC?
JSDC’s stundents are diverse in their age (20’s to 60’s), sex, background (professional dancers, retired couples, businesmen & women), and home countries (Japan, U.S., France, and more).
Which level should I start?
If this is the first time for you, we recommend taking the Intro Couse. You can start from how to walk as a pair (it’s more difficult than you think!) in this 4 week course. After that, you can advance to beginner level, beginner / intermediate level, then intermediate level.
| Levels | Average Duration | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Intro Course | 4 Weeks | Walking in a pair, learning types of dance, and basic steps of 8 kinds of dance |
| Beginner | Approx. 6-9 months | Practice each style in 4 weeks |
| Beginner / Intermediate | 1-2 years | Continue to polish your skills |
| Intermediate | Varies | Learn more advanced skills |

1. American style lesson
Unlike most social dance schools in Japan that teach competition-style dance, we specialize in American style social dance..
This means we have lessons for styles like salsa, hustle, and viennese waltz that are popular outside of Japan. You can learn a variety of styles to enjoy at cruises, latin clubs, formal and casual parties.
